My #Pixel8 is now running @GrapheneOS and apart from some smaller quirks, it's a smooth experience. I think not getting bugged by "yet another AI feature you should try" is a great side effect too. Will probably write a short blog post after a month or so.

The discussion about the German labor force is rather comical: on one hand we don't have enough people to get anything done or to ensure service availability like medical care. [#]WebFinger/RFC7033 is a required building block for #ActivityPub and the entire #fediverse. By design it cannot be hosted using static files, so if you want to implement name@domain.top
, your domain has to run a dynamic, costly web server. Who came up with that nonsense?! Why did they chose parameter-based dispatch instead of path-based dispatch like any sensible API, especially because .well-known
only contained paths and static entities before?

Engineers may prefer scripting languages like #Python over compiled languages like #Rust because they think it's quicker. However I find that even during incidents, you can totally build compiled CLI helpers in #Rust. They are easier to get correct, they are faster, and you can easily ship small static binaries to servers where you have stable network connections.
