[#]science and #nature are amazing. Just heard a lecture about how night active moths are able to see in starlight conditions. Apparently they combine receptors, losing spatial resolution, and also do long exposure, losing time resolution. So they see more coarse and slower.
And with the measurements there was a model created to approximate, how they see the environment in different light conditions.
Dr. Anna Stöckl from @unikonstanz did an amazing presentation. Also, great interactive parts.

I'm planning to get rid of #Google and Meta a fatr as possible. While Meta is kind of straightforward, Google gives me more to consider and may result in me buying a new phone. I would like to stick with #android and limited it down to some choices, but need help in deciding and fresh ideas. What would you do?
If you like to boost, feel free to do it ;)
Edit: I may need my old phone with Google service for some things. Not yet clear/decided.

I've decided this year to put my focus more on #infosec. This includes a lot of learning and also use the learnings in every day work as a developer. Today I decided to write myself a list of all security related things I realize I take into account. To remind me what I have thought of and also to hopefully see learnings and maybe even to compile my own checklist and compare it against others.
Let's see how that goes. I'm usually great at starting such lists, less great in keeping them up...

After supporting #signalapp last year twice with small one time donations I decided to put in for a small monthly donation. After all this will be most likely the messenger I will use predominantly in the foreseeable future.
And I also decided to accept the badge this time. Not to show I pay, but to show one can make donations. The same reason I'm writing this.
This goes for a lot of infrastructure not paid for by (big) companies. If you can afford it, think about donating.

Today at a #NIEWIEDERISTJETZT #protest in #nurnberg I was handed a flyer explaining about the fediverse. I did not shame users and rambled only a little about billionaires and algorithms. It explained decentralized servers and some of the benefits and also had a small how-to-fedi in it.
It was as complete with links to a (local) #mastodon , #pixelfed and #friendica instances.
Whoever did this. Well done and what a great way to disseminate information.

If you are at a #protest please do not take pictures of people and put them online without anonymizing them. It's their decision if they want to have their faces associated and public. It may not be possible to mask, depending on laws and cops

From a lot of people I hear they want to do some #greenfield #softwaredevelopment. While setting up things, planning from anew is fun, rewarding and teaching (so many new possibilities to make wrong decisions), there is something really important to consider.
The nice greenfield project, started with the best intentions, will soon be a legacy one for new people and even for your past self. And then you are in the position to be questioned on the "Why, What and WTF". (Yes, even from yourself).

So happy I'm not in a position where I have to decide how to tackle questions like:
Never been so happy to not live in the US or work for a US company.
Nevertheless, I think I should start thinking about this. Just in case. #softwaredevelopment

#epa_widerspruch

While I did already know audits of biological or medical research labs, today I had the first time experience taking part in a company audited for information security compliance (ISO27001). I was even questioned about software development. I was quite nervous, in hindsight for no reason. Turned out I was thinking quite too threat orientated. It was all about processes and guidelines. Also my interview was quite short.
One thing I had prepared a bit: German terms instead of English ones.

Checked the webserver logs from a prod-service today. Apparently it is a thing to probe for
Now I'm thinking of putting files there with a "nice try" message in them. Just to annoy.

I stumbled over 15:5 reports while reading an article themed "work doesn't have to suck" (thanks for sharing the toot @lisihocke).
https://psychsafety.com/15-5-reports/
To me they look rather interesting. Basically they are reports which can inform 1:1s and provide regular feedback.
As a team member in no managing capacity I think they could be a valuable tool. If used correctly. And a disastrous one if it would only be a checkbox.
Maybe this is also interesting for @maximilianwelter (not my manager).

First day back at work and I asked if I may use the WebApp we are developing as target practice of a not intentionally vulnerable application. And I already got the verbal ok and also the idea to put tickets into the backlog to make it visible.
While this will be by no means a #pentest, which we should do at some time, this will help me to get to know our application better. This sounds like a lot of fun ahead, provided I find the time. (Whom I'm kidding, this is stuff I may do on off hours)

Some of you might already know the #UncensoredLibrary from #reporterswithoutborders where they use a #minecraft map to circumvent #censorship.
It came to my mind again today and made me smile and also gave me hope. So I thought I would share it for those who do not know or have forgotten it like me. #truthfindsaway
