I have uploaded the model files and the web based processor for the Tiny Pocket Spectrometer, including source files and the case.

The model is using the Spreadsheet feature of FreeCAD to provide parametric changes.

The web based analyzer for the spectrometer is coming together, although I still have to figure out a few things. This screencapture shows a few of the features, but nothing serious, just sliding the sliders and buttoning the buttons, then cycling through a few colors on the lamp in front of the phone.

One of their fuckups was: They were sending mails and they got more and more annoyed as I never replied them.

Then they sent me a single e-mail about terminating the contract immediately, which I read in 3 minutes and called them.

It took a few months till they figured out somehow they replaced my address with their own. They were literally sending mails to themselves and I didn't reply. How surprising.

A few more e-mails later they finally fixed it.

You can't make this shit up.

I just received a physical mail from my server hosting provider that was printed with Track Changes on. I didn't knew it was even possible to do this :D

They are letting me know they no longer provide server hosting to individuals and I have to take my stuffs by 28th March otherwise they'll destroy them or give them to a charity.

I was migrating away from there anyway due to a few serious fuckups on their end & also costs.

I started to work on a mini pocket spectrograph, the 3D model will be available for download, I just need to tune a few things.

I am also working on a little web based stuff to make sense of the things seen, strictly locally in the browser, on the client side.

It's a fun random side project, though I already bought about 8 different light bulbs just to see their spectrum...

Did you know you can apply any color correction you can do in a photo editor easily to a video using ffmpeg? I didn't, but now I do!

All thanks to LUTs and that ffmpeg can generate and apply them.

I've been using ffmpeg since forever but only recently found out you can apply any color effect just by editing one snapshot of the video, without any command line guessing of gamma, saturation, contrast values of color channels or curves.

Generate a PNG, edit it in Photoshop, apply it to the video, done.

After a few years I installed XCOM: Enemy Unknown from Steam. It's a 12 years old game.

After a few hours of playing (in multiple sessions) suddenly my recent save files were gone. I guess it was a Steam Cloud glitch because earlier ones are there and work.

And then Steam updated itself.

Then it probably updated the game.

Now when I try to start the game it gets stuck in the "Updating executable" state.

WTF.

I knew it was new and not that popular yet, but I did not expect to not have enough rating on BoardGameGeek to have a reliable average to show. It looks like it is now around 8.5 out of 10, and I agree. But it is definitely not for everyone, you have to have a great company for it.

Also, us choosing the word "yes" to mean "no" was interesting 😅

Yesterday we played Gibberers, a japanese board game about developing your own language.

You come up w pronuncaiton for a starter set of words, then one draws a card and explain a noun/concept on it using existing words, also asking and answering w them.

Early you have ones like eye, salmon, tree; later like vampire, transaction, continental drift theory. And 2 more levels.

It is fun, frustrating, rewarding. I can highly recommend it!
