Not a big fan of Pink Ladies to be honest. But the ones they sell here in NL may be different. I used to eat a lot of Elstar, but like the Wellant they are local, so I doubt they're available elsewhere.

My supermarket recently started selling these apples, and I love them.

I've probably eaten more than 25K #apples in my life, and consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur.

These look rather "rustic". Some are basically covered by one big skin imperfection. If you prefer glossy red ultra-sweet apples, these are not for you.

Taste varies, even within the same bag. Some are a bit watery and "meh", but when you get a good one they are really, really tasty.

In this post, @photomatt (falsely) suggests that Joost and Karim's plans involve forking #WordPress.

I feel that this is his way of signaling that that must be what it is, because any plans to change the current setup "in place" are unimaginable to him. It has to be something separate.

Which translates to: "From my cold, dead hands."

The dueling orders are available, but I found the judge's calendar online and it does not mention the case at all?

No idea how these things work. Getting mild #WPDrama withdrawal symptoms 😉.

There are a considerable number of images in the #WordPress Photo Directory that contain the WordPress logo.

Like all photos in the directory, these are listed as "completely free to use for anything". But considering all the talk about WP trademarks, I wonder whether that's actually true.

What if, just as a random example, WP Engine chose to use one?

I've been using #Linux as my main OS for years, and need to reinstall my laptop soon. With Ubuntu focusing on Snap, I'm not sure I want to simply go with 24.04.

Can anyone recommend a Debian-based distro that offers a recent, clean version of Gnome? Preferably newer than what Debian Bookworm comes with?

It's weird how just a few weeks ago, I was excited about contributing to version 6.7, starting a new job as #WordPress expert, and candidate to become a WP team representative.

Flash forward, and here we are. Contributions paused. Providing daily updates to my team about the potential fallout of this #WPDrama, instead of briefing them about fun new features.

In the early days of #WordPress, I had a plugin in the official repository that was moderately popular.

Despite it being open source, I got a couple of offers to sell it. Anyone could fork it, so what I'd be selling was the power to publish a 1-click update to thousands of sites.

This is why Automattic's fork of #WPEngine's ACF plugin is not just a fork. A fork would not automatically replace the original. They're abusing their power to replace one of the ecosystem's most popular products.

If you're using the K-9 email client on your #Android phone, you can now switch to Thunderbird. It's essentially the same app, but development will continue on Thunderbird.

The app-to-app settings import did not work for me (requires a non-release version of K-9), but I had no problems exporting the settings in K-9 and then importing them in #Thunderbird.

So basically, what this #wpdrama boils down to is:

• WP Engine uses "WP" in its name, which is explicitly allowed.

• WP Engine uses similar marketing copy to any other host in the space, which uses the name "WordPress" strictly to describe their services (fair use).

• WP Engine does not contribute to WordPress to the extent that Matt would like.

• Automattic only sues WP Engine.

Whether something is a trademark violation should not depend on contributions, which are optional (GPL).
