Also one of the goats and I had a disagreement which resulted in me (literally and accidentally) going head-to-head with the goat. That was... dumb. Ouch. Really hoping this doesn't turn into a black eye...

Relatedly, I just finished drinking the last goat milk for the season. Baby goats due in 2 months, so it's time to stop milking.
It's now soy milk season here on the goat farm. (I need to get better at making oat milk since oats can actually grow here and soy definitely cannot. Long-term project.)

One of the cheese bloggers I follow has a "cheese club" of fellow home cheesemakers. Gosh I love this idea so much! But I think the majority of people around here who make their own cheese are going to have very different political leanings than me, so it would be stressful to avoid many topics and they'd also be very covid-oblivious.
Long shot: are there any covid-conscious hippies within driving distance of Regina who make their own cheese on the fediverse? DM me! (Seriously!)

Ok that was WAY too much zoom in one day, especially while trying to finish stupid annual review forms that I waited until the last second to complete.
My brain is even more fried than it usually is by Friday afternoon. I badly need to go for a walk...but is it -27C with windchill and nearly white-out conditions. I guess I'll go check on the animals for a very short walk and then sit down to read a book...

It's annoying that Zoom opens a new tab every time, but makes it easy to keep track of ridiculous numbers of Zoom meetings. Apparently I've had 9 today, and I still have one more to go. I am friiiieeeed.

I should add because of some of the responses I'm getting that I'm really not trying to crap on EVs!
The infrastructure for EVs is currently terrible where I live, and so is public transit, and biking is really hard when it's -30C (and my horse is too small to ride), so the best option for me personally right now is to keep my current car functioning as long as possible. (Our second car is a much-newer plug-in hybrid, if that makes me sound less smug)
Anyway, happy 400,000 km, car!

More totally frivolous news since I apparently badly need to procrastinate this morning:
Yesterday I saw a moose walking through my farm, and also got my 2005 Jetta to within 10 km of crossing the 400,000 km mark!
(EVs are fantastic, but new cars have a huge environmental footprint. Keeping your old car with amazing gas mileage running as long as possible is sometimes a better option - though more "exciting" to see what parts crap out first...)

I have double and triple booked Zoom meetings most of the day today, my kids have the day off school but the school where my partner teaches does not have the day off, I still have this completely infuriating referee report I have to respond to and the deadline has probably passed already, and it's going to get really really cold again.
But it's almost Imbolc! We're halfway to the equinox!

The Financial Times just released this excellent explainer video on space debris: https://channels.ft.com/en/tech/the-runaway-debris-threat-to-space-technology/
They did a really great job covering all the issues with space debris (though in my opinion, atmospheric pollution is the biggest, scariest effect here and that was mentioned but not emphasized).
I have to say, it's pretty neat to be interviewed in the same video as the head of the ESA space debris office and the director of UNOOSA.

Due to some unexpected travel, I am going to replace Jonathan McDowell as the online speaker for the Kalamazoo Astro Society next week. I won't lie, it's pretty darn cool to be the substitute Jonathan McDowell for anything, really!
But yeah, sorry, Kalamazoo. I don't have everything in orbit in my head (and a public database) like Jonathan does! But I do have stories of trying to offer donuts to silent SpaceX employees at a middle-of-nowhere grain farm, so hopefully that'll be an ok swap.

when2meet just gave me a poll link for a space debris committee meeting that ends with, I kid you not, "-lonmk"
Am I being trolled by random letters?!!
(Or perhaps am I just being a little too sensitive?)
