09:18 TR News; Having a very tough time with tuxmachines DB lately. The DB turns 20 in 2 years (same for my personal blog; started with ancient mysql). I think companies need to slow down development and focus on long-term maintenance so that sites, for instance (DB, OS, CMS, P/L), can go on for decades without things getting long in the tooth. There's financial incentive to break stuff and then sell "support" or "upgrades".

Vaccines are good, but these ones were rushed, monopolised with patents (graft; making the rich a lot richer) and isolation/home-working almost abandoned to appease the estate tycoons. Now we pay the price.

14:39 matey; XRevan86: incidentally, the point isnt that kuhn is as bad as putin. the point was simply that some people/orgs are so corrupt and so far from their STATED intentions that even the Best campaigns are undoubtedly bullshit

14:43 matey; and when you consider that ESR did the same thing for 20+ years...

15:31 matey; thats a "worm"?

15:31 matey; it sounds very trojany in nature...

I find they also have expectations that are out of touch with reality. for instance they think that moving from microsoft to linux they will indeed just move over . and have no work to do. nothing to learn. they expect the smartphone i think and default to the least amount of mental power they must use in order to use said thing.

21:35 schestowitz[TR]; the posing with big rifles is partly that

21:35 schestowitz[TR]; for show

21:35 DaemonFC; After 23 people wounded and in the hospital and 16 dead, the cops show up.

21:35 DaemonFC; To "deter".

21:35 DaemonFC; Woohoo.

21:35 DaemonFC; Very useful.

21:35 schestowitz[TR]; same with the truck in nice

21:35 schestowitz[TR]; they can respond too late

21:36 DaemonFC; They ALWAYS respond MUCH too late.

21:36 schestowitz[TR]; not always

21:36 schestowitz[TR]; you onlyu hear about the worst atrocities

21:36 schestowitz[TR]; the mass shootings happen every day

21:36 schestowitz[TR]; iirc, fbi now defined that as >=3 victims

21:36 DaemonFC; That's why when we say gun control is stupid, we say it like this.... "When seconds count, the police are only an hour away.".

21:36 schestowitz[TR]; *defines

21:36 schestowitz[TR]; but you only hear about the worst of the worst

21:37 schestowitz[TR]; make a country that treats people ddecently

21:37 schestowitz[TR]; teats

21:37 schestowitz[TR]; not with meds

21:37 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], In south Chicago, the police response time is now 2 hours and 6 minutes.

21:37 schestowitz[TR]; like antidepressants

21:37 DaemonFC; Good luck with that!

21:37 DaemonFC; Better not have a FOID card when they show up. They may arrest the victim.

21:37 schestowitz[TR]; then fewer will be evil enough to mass-murder strangers

21:38 schestowitz[TR]; biab

21:38 schestowitz[TR]; it's off topic anyway

21:38 DaemonFC; Like that Navy veteran who started carrying. He had a FOID card but not a CCL. He had a CCL, but he said it cost too much to keep renewing, so he just kept the guns in his house and had a FOID card. Then he had to do UberEats because of the shitty economy, and he kept getting approached and harassed by Chicago street criminals.

21:38 DaemonFC; So he started carrying again with a FOID but no CCL.

21:39 DaemonFC; When he got pulled over for speeding, he pulled out his driver's license. His FOID was behind the license. The cop saw the FOID and asked if he had a gun in the car.

21:39 DaemonFC; He told the cop yes, and then the cop charged him with a felony for not having the CCL.

21:39 MinceR; https://pleated-jeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/funny-pictures-5-23-22-7.jpg

=> ↺ https://pleated-jeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/funny-pictures-5-23-22-7.jpg

21:39 DaemonFC; When I read that, I moved the FOID card out from behind my driver's license and put it behind my health insurance card instead.

21:40 DaemonFC; I said, "That's a good point. If the cop sees your FOID during a traffic stop, they might pull what they did with this poor fellow.".

21:41 DaemonFC; Don't put your FOID behind your driver's license.

22:06 SomeH4x0r; hi

22:07 SomeH4x0r; I did invite my IRC friend, MoneyFliffer/Luis64_gamer here, but they left because bots are not clearly marked as bots unlike Discord

22:08 matey; but they left because bots are not clearly marked as bots unlike Discord <- um, ok

22:08 SomeH4x0r; they did try to talk with a bot

22:08 matey; i believe all the bots say "bot"

22:09 SomeH4x0r; https://techrights.org/irc/ - still visible here

=> https://techrights.org/irc/

22:09 matey; ok

22:10 matey; there are archives too, so going back and seeing what happened july 4 2022 is possible

22:10 psydroid2; this is hilarious

22:10 matey; or will be by tomorrow

22:10 *psydroid2 thinks a certain extent of delusion is needed to talk to a bot

22:11 psydroid2; but everyone is different and I accept that

22:11 matey; ive done it a couple times

22:12 matey; but you know, they passed the turing test for 3 seconds

22:12 matey; it became obvious really quickly

22:12 psydroid2; exactly

22:12 psydroid2; Discord was invented for people who clearly can't pass that test

22:13 SomeH4x0r; 23:24 <Luis64_gamer> bcz i dont like servers with bots acting like humans

22:13 SomeH4x0r; that's what they said

22:14 psydroid2; so Discord it is

22:14 SomeH4x0r; 23:25 <Luis64_gamer> i just replied to a bot stupidly

22:14 SomeH4x0r; 23:25 <Luis64_gamer> waiting to recive an response

22:14 psydroid2; becoming one with the void

22:14 SomeH4x0r; they still remain on IRC, just other servers

22:15 matey; thats the smallest reason to use a different server ive ever heard of

22:15 psydroid2; nothing of value was lost

22:15 matey; but to each his own

22:15 SomeH4x0r; yes, I invited them here a few months ago to talk about Windows evils

22:15 SomeH4x0r; I did invite them here again just in case, no specific reason

22:16 SomeH4x0r; will try to invite them to digdeeper's chat the other time

22:16 psydroid2; the best way for people to learn is for them to experience the pain of running Windows and it making their life hell

22:16 matey; i cant/wont speak for everyone here, but i think the main thing of value that happens here is people keeping each other informed about a few things among peers who already have some idea whats going on

22:16 matey; new people are obviously welcome

22:17 matey; with that said, i dont think much happens here in the way of strategy or education per se

22:17 matey; not on average

22:17 matey; some may disagree, and some may even add hype (you cant stop them)

22:18 matey; if you know what to look for you can pick up useful tips here

22:18 matey; the reason im saying this is i start to wonder if you think something more than that is going to happen here

22:18 matey; and i dont think it very likely will

22:18 matey; of course if youre right and im wrong, more power to you, that would be great
