When reading US gov't pronouncements, remember to always engage the authoritarianism translator:

• "What you're doing is criminal": "What I'm doing is extremely illegal, and I know it."

• "You are targeting private individuals": "My gang is committing crimes right now. Naming members of my gang makes it harder for me to commit crimes."

• "We are not currently considering ..": "Trump keeps asking us about this. Short answer: Yes, but we don't know how to best get away with it yet."
