We don't get much of the story around this character, and what we get is almost completely told through his costumes. In flashbacks he wears white well fitted hanfu with gold details. In the 'now' his clothes are baggier, and have large patches that look worn to the threads. I may be on thin ice since the technique making those patches could be expensive, but it looks like the fall of the Sigu sect hit him extra hard.
