Great Version of An Arcade Classic:
Splatterhouse for Turbo Grafx-16 can be one of my favorite side scroller, horror beat 'em up.
I love its graphics, especially this version it looks clean, crisp and contributes to the horror atmosphere of the game rather effectively.
The soundscape of the game is mesmerizing. It really pulls you in. You feel like you are in 80s horror movie which is some amazing achievement when you consider this is a game released in, originally, for arcades in 1988.
Controls feels robust and they offer some enjoyable experience. Maybe one thing I could say is that I wish we carried a permanent weapon like a hatchet.
Horror beat 'em up is still a unique genre and its flames are ignited by Splatterhouse.
I am not that sure whether this game is a hidden gem. More than likely we can say this port of the game still remained relatively obscure since the fate of the Turbo Grafx-16 is sealed in the west. Even much earlier than its arrival.
An amazing horror beat em up that is atmospheric and joy to experience too, with certain horror based aesthetic sensibilities you should definitely check it out.
I hate to say this phrase since it is abused quite a bit by corporate speak but still this game revolutionized gaming.
