Last night I dreamed that I had to step in to present ABC TV’s 7.30 at the last minute. I didn’t have time to change, so I went on camera wearing a red floral shirt with food stains on it, and smudged glasses.
The autocue was poorly operated, however, and what was being displayed made no sense. I can work with an autocue, and have done so various times perfectly well, but I knew this was going to be blamed on me. I tried to recover as best I could, but it was still a disaster.
The program, which is broadcast live, was abandoned. I had a long conversation with the executive producer, who knew what had really happened, but he said he was powerless to intervene.
I was told to join the Teams meeting, but I didn’t have a login because I was only a contractor, so I just lurked behind some other staff. They felt sorry for me.
Later, when I was walking home, I passed an open-mic stand-up session in tent in a shopping mall, where one performer was mocking me. He couldn’t see me, but the audience could. They laughed. 1/2
