@LeBonk @mekkaokereke You are exactly right. In a way, that speech about how injustices would “sort themselves out” is similar to the way people once talked about the war in Europe. What we call “World War I” they referred to as “the war to end all wars,” which it surely was not. We know better. Yet today, the certainty of “sort themselves out” thinking is akin to “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice,” both of which are far more passive statements than our reality. Our civil society is not nearly as stable, just, nor peaceful enough that we can expect cruelty and #injustice to go away without vigilance and significant struggle — peaceful or otherwise. As you say, it always requires a fight. “Values-neutral governance” is as effective as law without enforcement; it is a failure to comprehend.
