Sometimes I watch these period movies (like Sense and Sensibility, which I just finished), in order to bask in the bewildering novelty of how long they had to consider events before or after they occurred. They didn't just open their phone and have to instantly process 47 feelings in 12 seconds.
Like, "Oh, the man I crush upon has sent a letter announcing his visit in two days! I must consider my feelings, I shall call for some tea and spend all afternoon in the garden sorting my thoughts."
