Following up on what we actually accomplished at last night's first local Food Not Bombs meeting:
I can't help them organize as I'm focused on organizing my own mutual aid groups (food rescue and free fridges), but I participated in the meeting, gave information and my own experience, suggested next steps, and I'll probably be able to volunteer with them.
Big thing for me, is I'm looking for places I can drop my food off that others can distribute. So they're a great group to work with on that.
Heck, in Richmond the Free / Community Fridge group and the Food Not Bombs group got together and leased out a Free Kitchen!
Check that out here: https://richmondmagazine.com/restaurants-in-richmond/matchbox-mutual-aid/
Next steps, since a lot of us aren't experienced in Food Not Bombs directly, we're going to make a trip down to Richmond and up to DC at some point soon to join their Food Not Bombs on one or more of their cooks and distributions.
We'll help them out and gain experience and hands on training that we can then bring back to our town.
Mutual Aid Groups mutually aiding other Mutual Aid Groups.
This shit stacks and scales, yo.
