My previous instance had a character limit of 1024.
I am happy that my current instance has a longer character limit, but I have set a warning in my app (@apps) that pops up once my post reaches 1024 characters.
Personally I think that 1024 is roughly the maximum length of the ideal post I'd write.
It's also the maximum length of a post that I would happily read. I don't object to longer posts, but I find myself skipping them.
