Oh I know it will rip apart the market, and my retirement is in there, but I REALLY REALLY hope it is true that we were all fed a box of bullshit about AI and it really is just a bunch of case statements that has delusions of grandeur, and some architecture astronaut made it into something that needed BUILDINGS FULL OF COMPUTERS to run because it is so unperforming.
In the dawn of the unit testing era, I was thrown on a project to "improve performance" because they had added FOUR web servers to this cluster that was running this app and page loads still took 10 seconds.
The team that architected it were PREENING over the architecture. When I asked I was treated to a four hour meeting about it.
I tore out 2/3 of it, especially the dependency injection, replaced it with mocks, removed the load balancing, went to one server, and page loads were in the milliseconds.
Complexity is the enemy.
