@tilde My ex has an MLIS, and we met while she was getting her masters. From what I absorbed of that world, two things jump immediately to mind:

Check your local university to see if their library school has extension or other non-degreed courses available.
Go to your local library and your local university library. Walk up to the reference desk, and ask everything in this post. Do this at as many libraries as you have time/energy for. You will make their day. Srsly.
