I signed up for a Hetzner account because they've got cheap web hosting, claim to use renewable energy, and seem to have a pretty good standing with web people.

To sign up with them you need to provide:

• Your name

• Full address

• Payment information (up front)

Then the account was flagged as high-risk, because obviously, so they also needed:

• A picture of my passport

• A selfie

• A mysterious verification process that took 5 minutes and required "human" validation

I get the need for a web-hosting company to want to screen its clientele, but that was invasive as fuck.

I've got an account now, but I'm second-guessing actually committing to using their services. I'll wait for the urine sample to clear before I make the final decision.
