Laut Umweltwirtschaftsbericht 2024 des nordrhein-westfalischen Umweltministeriums waren im Jahr 2023 rund 600.000 Menschen in der NRW-weiten Umweltwirtschaft beschäftigt. Das sind 6,2 Prozent aller Erwerbstätigen im Bundesland. Damit bietet die Branche mehr Arbeitsplätze als der Steinkohlebergbau.
