There is so much social pressure to perform gender correctly. Nearly everyone has some bad memory of being told they "threw like a girl" or "looked mannish" ... the feelings of self-loathing and rejection become disgust and an inability to comprehend.
We hurt each other so much with the BS. And rather than learning to be kind it makes some people more nasty and mean.
And this is being used as a cheap political tool.
