Nextcloud is incredible, and it's not too bad to host if you're fairly familiar with the processes.
One thing I CANNOT recommend strongly enough is to spend the time to follow ALL (applicable) tuning & hardening steps as laid out in their guide. Before I took that time, the performance was not very good, despite running on a powerful box. What helped me the post was tuning php-fpm, adding redis and apcu cache and dialing in opcache.
