@drdirtbag There is no obligation to keep it mountain related only. As mentioned by several people, people follow the person, not part of them. If you use hashtags, people can mute them in case not interested or to keep them sane (talking to you #uspol 😜). Another option (which you are using already) is to post "unlisted". In that way the post does not end up in the local timeline of the instance, but still is public and searchable. Sure, the thing that brought us here are the mountains, but do not feel too restrained.
That said, I personally felt that my personal (not instance-) IT related nerd-stuff was better suited on another account. As I run a personal instance anyway (sandbox where I test upgrades etc before deploying on mountains.social), I use that one. People follow me there for this IT stuff and some couldn't care less about a nice trail.
In the Fediverse app "Rodent" you can login to various accounts and indeed show them combined in one feed.
But: whatever suits you.
