@ninafelwitch tip: one can register with dhl as "selbstverzoller", then they won't do the whole import thing and the local customs office will send a letter to pick up the package from them and pay taxes there. saves on the, quite frankly, exorbitant fees dhl has (though it will require a trip to the local customs office, which may or may not be close)
