You do not have to like the app, that is perfectly fine. TT has a lot of problems, anyone who’s on there is completely aware of that. But this ban sets a terrifying precedence for us as a nation. Governments that ban websites are not part of a group we want to belong to.
If this was purely about privacy and data concerns, then all platforms would be getting highlighted right now and not just TT getting singled out. We know that meta, Google, X, sells our data, this is common knowledge.
TT has provided an income or supplemental income to literally millions of Americans. It has provided billions in revenue for our country. It has provided incredible advertising for countless small businesses. Banning will be impacting millions economically.
If you’re gonna tell me about the spread of misinformation on TT, sure there’s plenty of that there. There’s also plenty of that on literally every single social media platform. That has been a problem with social media since before TT existed. If that genuinely was the problem that the government was concerned about then all social media platforms would be getting highlighted.
