Today while checking on the LA fires, I learned that it's possible to buy privacy on Google maps. All of Topanga is shown in maybe 1m resolution, as opposed to maybe 30cm for the rest of LA, and a lot of it has no streetview coverage at all, or only very spotty coverage. It all shows up normally in Google Earth, so it's clearly a maps-specific thing, not the underlying data.
