We can have nice things, sometimes. Standard EBooks do sterling work making readable versions of books that are in the public domain.
When I don't know what to read, I browse their catalogue and get something new in a good, non-nonsense edition. Authors I've not heard of, authors I had on the list to read "one day". Almost always unexpected.
Like Lolly Willowes by Sheila Townsend Warner. That does not finish where you think it will at the start.
