The roots of modern strategically antidemocratic forces in the US go back primarily to early Texas oil barons. The Magnificast podcast had an episode years back that showed this as far back as the 1930s. This "Scene on Radio": S4 E8: "The Second Redemption" puts the focus on institutional efforts in the 1950s, and then catches up to this decade.
