[#]SolarUpdate
Well, we have a year in review post today.
Total electric used on the house in 2024
5102kwh (avg 425kwh/month)
Total electric imported in 2024
2006kwh (avg 167kwh/month) (highest monthly import Dec 355kwh, lowest June 13kwh)
Total electric generated
3901kwh (avg 325kwh/month) (Highest June 556kwh, lowest Dec 77kwh)
Total solar used directly
1845kwh
Total solar used via battery
1492kwh
Total electric exported
563kwh
Total cost of electric, standing charges & VAT for 2024
£773.35
Total earned from solar export
£94.56
Approximate savings for the year
£1132 + £94 = £1226
In addition to electric, we also pay for gas.
That added a further £596.58 to the annual bill.
Combined total £1,369.93
Thanks to the solar and battery system, we used enough free electric to cut our electric bill from around £2000 to just £773
That's in a year that saw us generate about 8% LESS electric than 2023
However, with the upgrade to the battery system earlier in the year tripling capacity. We were able to reduce the amount exported by around 50%, increasing the savings by almost 15% over the previous year.
In 2023, we used 977kwh of battery power.
In 2024, we used 1491kwh of battery power, and that was only from Mar-Dec not even a full year.
Without this system, we'd be paying over £250 a month in direct debits
We currently pay £80 a month thanks to the £1100 credit that had built up over the last couple of years. It used to be £100 but dropped recently.
Winter bills will drain that significantly as Nov was £192 and Dec £207, Jan & Feb will be similar. The account credit is currently £803
Expecting to heading into Spring with a credit in the region of £500-550, which will begin to build up again until Oct. I estimate we might get another winter out of the credit before we need to raise our monthly bills again.
The important thing is that we've managed to weather the energy crisis without hardship these last few years and ensure that we will continue to benefit from lower bills for the next decade or two.... or as long as I own the house.
