I've just read the latest news about the #TikTok ban in the US and once again I'm appalled by the sheer arrogance and hipocrisy of the United States of Amerikkka.
all the arguments they had for this ban is things they themselves did in a very recent past on a global scale. can you imagine if the EU or Brazil would pass a law forcing Meta to sell Instagram and/or Facebook to a non-US-American company otherwise it would be banned due to concerns about Meta being a threat to their national securities? I mean, contrary to the suspicions about ByteDance, which are completely hypothetical as of now, the suspicions about Meta have been proven time and time and time and again and again and again in the last 10 years. and I didn't even mention the whole NSA shit, which went completely unpunished (except for the whistleblowers, of course), not triggering a single sanction against the USA from any country illegally spied on.
but hey, "China, TikTok, AMURIKKA FUCK YEAH et al, so let's accuse them of doing what we actually did to every other country in the planet, and everybody knows we did it, and Meta keeps on doing it as we speak, otherwise we will ban them, for our National Security, and not at all to cater to Zuck's hunger for monopoly of the young minds of Amurikka" is the mindset of the US, so let them be completely excluded from a huge chunk of the online conversation and let's see if they realize what are the consequences of that.
