Some of the things I learned:

• FontLab leaves a value on the stack after the pre-program. Bad stack hygiene!

• Zone alignment code is terribly inefficient in FontLab.

• All values are stored in the instruction streams as double bytes even if they would fit in a byte. That’s a lot of extra zeroes in a font file!

• There are 2 functions in the font program that are never called.

• The alignment zone widths are stored in the font, but never used.
