Our brains are designed to think first that this bag seems to be inhabited by goldfishes. It's a method that allows us to perceive our environment quickly and with less effort.

So a typical brain is unlikely to quickly grasp the unfathomable, the unknown.

Yet time is running out, climate change and the erosion of biodiversity are taking us into inhospitable territory.

Ninety-five per cent of scientists who are experts in this field believe that we must act now at all costs. Very few of them are communists; it's more a competitive environment, not to say liberal.

Everything we take for granted is going to be affected. This is no time to play Mad Max, we have to accept our interdependence, cooperate and show solidarity.
