@Badger
When I first started getting excited about Mastodon I was talking to my sibling - and went overboard talking about how Mastodon/Fediverse is different/interesting on a network level...which ended up giving them the impression that Mastodon is “hard” and overly complicated...
So, now I just say, “Mastodon is non-commercial social media that’s similar to Twitter. It’s software made by the community, for the community – and that’s why I like it.”
A nice 3 minute “Mastodon in 180 Seconds 🐘” – non-technical explainer is here: https://tilvids.com/w/f747058d-3991-4046-a1c9-29c184daa0ff
There are important technical differences from e.g. Twitter, and those differences can be points of frustration – like reply visibility and visibility/discoverability of posts and accounts.
You mentioned yesterday, “...M is fab, although not as user friendly, which means I spend time looking for replies.”
It’s taken me time to get comfortable with Mastodon too...
I’ll start with a little technical stuff and then a suggested solution in the next posts.
