The whole WordPress fiasco is demonstrating that when it comes to open source, organization is more important than license.
Torvalds has been such a good steward of Linux that we have made the mistake in believing in the "benevolent dictator for life" structure. This is like Plato's "philosopher king." Nice when it works out but it rarely does.
FreeBSD is a great example of an organization structured democratically.
