TIL: Watchmaking in Biel, Switzerland, has a strong tradition of anarcho-syndicalism. In Shlomo Sand's book "A Short History of the Left" he mentions that Mikhail Bakunin---one of the leading anarchist thinkers of his time (mid 1800) and opponent of Karl Marx---chose the region around Biel for his exile because of the anarchic forms of organization of the watchmakers in that area! Here is an online article that also describes that movement: https://www.europastar.com/the-watch-files/archives-heritage/1004113260-anarchists-and-watchmakers.html.
Incidentally, Bakunin's grave is in Bern.
I find this interesting because #GNUTaler also is co-developed in Biel (where Rolex sits) and allows for anarcho-syndicalistic ways of digital payment.
