National claimed prior the election that they would be an evidence driven government. Since they were elected they have not so much backed off on that position as reversed away from it at high speed.
It's clear they have no time for actual evidence. I suspect Luxon in his fundamentalist wisdom sees science as physical things like computers and engines; that anything more complex than "Plane goes Up, Plane goes down" falls into the realm of God created magic.
