I'm trying out Gnucash, and the first thing it does -- gives me error message that an account is read-only -- open account option and remove placeholder checkbox.
Except I have no idea where the account options are.
Turns out I need to right-click -> edit account -> uncheck Placeholder checkbox.
Googling this showed mailing lists that didn't give good info.
Classic GNU utils -- renaming options without updating documentation, and assuming newbies know everything
