In June my wife fell ill with bacterial meningitis. 9 days of IV antibiotics dealt with the infection but it left her with profound deafness in one ear and severe in the other. She was referred to the Scottish Cochlear Implant Programme and had the surgery at the end of July. Today was switch on and she's really happy with the initial results. We had our first normal conversation in weeks.
Fantastic technology but even more amazing is the #NHS which made it all possible with no extra stress.
