The last article by the #Perseverance team mentioned this:
"The rocks here are rich in low-calcium pyroxene (LCP), making them one of the most intriguing sample targets of the mission so far."
IANAG, so I can not tell whether the rock in this image contains any of that mineral.

@65dBnoise I'm probably missing the point, but LCP has been mentioned in many analyses before, specially of bright rocks. I'm kind of surprised that they are "hyping" these ones, but I guess the abundance, the wt%, is much higher than before.

There must be something special in this case, which may have to do with the location it was found, that's outside the crater rim. They do mention a "first Noachian-aged outcrop sample", so it may be that fact that makes it special.

@65dBnoise yeah, it's older and less altered than what has been seen in the crater, but it shouldn't come as such a big surprise, it's what was expected of Witch Hazel Hill. But every "hype" is good "hype" 😉

Yes, they said it was identified from orbit, but now the genie is IN the bottle 😀 Now they just need to bring that bottle here…
I'm no fan of hype, neither are those scientists in Perseverance's team, AFAICT. So, when I see "thrilled" in one of their articles, I tend to believe there's reason for them to feel so; the back and forth during this last month is also a testament to that.

Destroying a culture of freedom and openness is not a bug, but a feature of fascism. Telltales of it have been present in the US for quite a while now, but Americans have been force-fed too much of their "greatness" to be in a position to realize it's happening to them now. Exactly the way it happened to Germans before WWII.
I wish I'm wrong. #KassandraWasRight
