Toot

I was expecting there to be a few GOP senators who took their oaths seriously enough to sink Trump's most ludicrous nominees--the ones that are both dangerous and also just an embarrassment to the country--and fold on his other vicious, unqualified wingnuts.

But I was wrong.

@JoshuaHolland If Trump supported the “Stone Babies to Death” bill, Republicans would pass it.

@JoshuaHolland I live in a state where one of my Senators is Susan Collins, so you can imagine my predicament. She's not as bad as Mitch, but closer to Manchin/Sinema-style politicians.

Any Senator who tolerates this madness will face the harsh judgement of history, but little else apparently, because they are paid off in this life.

@StillIRise1963 we’ve never had nominees quite this embarrassing in the past. And Matt Gaetz didn’t have the votes. I figured that meant something.

@JoshuaHolland

The GOP always disappoint - because they never intended to do the right thing - but they love to hang the carrot out for those who have hope, until their hope slowly dies.

I have changed my way of thinking on this and now I expect them to do the unthinkable because that is exactly what they do and instead of having my hopes dashed, I'm just more pissed at their gutless actions. They WANT you to have hope, so that they can crush it - that way they always win.

@JoshuaHolland The Trump-Musk MOB is threatening their lives, & likely their families too. Several MOC would need to band together to thwart the MOB, to accomplish any meaningful pushback.

@JoshuaHolland Some MOC are wealthy enough to buy ample security, but most don't. Romney did, & J Justice & R Scott do, & but many aren't rich enough.

@KimPerales I think you're giving them too much credit. Unless you're a Romney-level Trump enemy, you don't need a 24-hour security detail. They can hire bodyguards with campaign funds. They get a $10K allowance for home security and the Sergeant of Arms offers protection when necessary. FBI chases down threats.

They're more worried about a mean twoot from Trump, a bad article from Breitbart and being primaried. They swore an oath. They're cowards for handing the country to Trump and Musk

@JoshuaHolland I guess we disagree on this one. Private security is very expensive. Many MOC, esp. Dems, have families & high expenses due to travel costs to their homes, childcare... Yes, there're multi-millionaires, but most aren't.

@JoshuaHolland I'm not defending all their actions, I care about all lives, want equal justice... but I believe in human rights, don't support the death penalty, & would like those public servants who are the subject to death threats to receive security detail, although I know that likely won't happen. I think it's more just to rot in prison, & assigned to many jobs in prison. I'm livid that the SC & many ppl in the Trump admin are criminals. I don't know if justice will ever be served for them.

@KimPerales I just think you're more focused on the security angle than they are. No doubt it's in the back of their minds, but their primary motivation is not crossing Trump and the RW press or getting primaried by Elon.

Given that lots of people will die because they voted to confirm, for ex, RFK Jr, it's not enough to excuse violating their oaths.

@JoshuaHolland I really hate to speak in absolutes.

But I think after this many years of this much proof, it's clear that anyone still willing to officially associate with the GOP is not to be trusted, relied upon, or believed.

They have all bent the knee at the altar of hatred and nonsense.

Any federal politician still calling themselves "Republican" doesn't care about being taken seriously or being trusted. If they did, they'd at least switch to independent.
