I think I'm going to nuke my Bluesky because at this point I know about US politics more than about Ukraine politics, and to be honest it's REALLY secondary for me right now. They still are gonna fuck our politics and life up and I'll experience it first hand anyway. My feed there is neverending doom that I have no need of.

There's staying informed about what's going on right now, and there's exposing yourself to constant repetition of the same thing coming from different sources.
Bluesky right now is very much the latter. People (justifiably) unleash their fear and anger, and others have realised that fear and anger drive engagement so they go at it nonstop to regain the following and clout they lost on twitter.
I pretty much gave up on even crossposting there because the character limit forces me to botch my post and it makes it a chore, on top of the current vibe. And I only have energy for one main platform, and maybe instagram and my website. And if that's a good enough excuse for me, you are a billion times more justified to do what's right for you.

@reinesis That sort of thing absolutely affects anyone's mental health, let alone when having other more pressing issues also stressing you.
"This makes me uncomfortable" or "this affects me negatively right now" are reasons enough, if you change your mind or feel differently in the future you can always go back. But you don't owe anyone your presence or your discomfort, if at this moment it has a negative impact on you.

At this day and age, with how prevalent talk about mental health is and with how the world is going down the drain, I think it's a common understanding among most people that sometimes we all need time and distance and to prioritise our mental state.
I mean, before Masto I pretty much vanished from all socials for a good 2+ years, and then found most people I used to talk to before.
I go out of my way to let people I'm invested in know that they can reach out whenever and time is irrelevant, but tbh it's a common understanding among everyone I know that this is something that happens and there's nothing bad to it. A girl needs her hermit mode sometimes.
