why does mastodon not have a "quote post" mechanism? have i missed something in terms of a "paul, that's really insensitive, you know..." moment?

@pavsmith there were a lot of very strongly put arguments against it, mostly from ppl who didn’t like having their posts quoted in a negative manner. So it wasn’t implemented at a server/protocol level.

But many clients will format in a twitter/quote format if you post with a link to another post in it.

FWIW I like quote posting

@WiteWulf yeah, i know there is a simple enough way to effect it. the problem is that anyone can simply take a screenshot of your post and then you can't even delete it to make it go away. ho hum. i'm sure it was a Good Idea (tm) at the time. and yes, i like it, too.
