If you ever wonder how civilizations were able to reach enlightenment and then lost it all in just a few generations, we are now experiencing it in real time, and it feels as sad as I would have imagined.

@Ailantd it feels even sader to me, tbh. Because we collectively know what to do to prevent what's coming... but still, we wait for someone else to take that in charge.

@Ailantd

The only people who ever really learn from history are historians (and archaeologists!), and no one really listens to them.

So around and around it goes, each fall losing more than the last, until finally there is nothing left.

There is a way through it, but the last human species needs to learn some humility to see it, and that is always in short supply in the upper echelons of power.

@Ailantd I am hoping that the sentence "history repeats itself" is not true

@Ailantd I don't think we actually reached enlightenments, we did feel short

It's been quite the education, watching the West generally and the US in particular deliberately, and with malice aforethought, turn its back on what multiple generations before us struggled to build.

@Ailantd I never understood the fall of the Roman Empire while in school. All the explanations didn’t make sense. But now I have a life-like image and understand it.

@Ailantd I don’t think the things being lost in the US are also lost to humanity as a whole. Eg Canadian librarians will send books after the US stops burning. I don’t think there is much that is uniquely American that will be missed. Its brand of capitalism and imperialism and corruptible government is not that appetizing. If you think good things are being permanently lost worldwide, that’s different. Maybe the investment in infrastructure should be mourned. We’ll have to rebuild a lot of school systems, for example.

@Ailantd

By all means, it's corporations who make most of the big problems here on earth.

Also, it's society itself who keeps financially empowering those same corporations by using their services.

This world will be back on it's feet as soon as people stop using corporate services.

There is a lot of hope, people just gotta realise it and switch to non-corporate services. 😊
