As we go into a cold spell, my winter in the UK so far has been without heating (apart from the odd boiler test).

I'd like to say I'm managing it ok, and I kind of am, though I'm freezing my tits off.

Hot water bottles and heated blanket/throw are wonderful.

My energy bill has gone down! In the winter! A whole £4. Makes me wonder how much it would have gone up if I'd actually used it.

I'm contemplating cancelling my gas bill entirely when my fix ends.

I haven't seen Hendrix for a while. I wonder where he is. Hopefully hiding inside from the weather.

It vexes me when people say you can't trust cats, that they are selfish or cruel. If you follow them, hang out with them and understand what is important to them, you quickly see that this isn't true.

They are evolved to behave in a particular way, and are just as variable in nature as humans. They have interests, boundaries, weirdness and thoughtfulness.

Another Christmas Day here in The Bunker.

I didn't get to see Hendrix the cat today, but went for a walk with my brother.

I'm well fed, warm enough, got enough sleep and having a cheeky glass of wine.

I don't know what the future holds, but there are those with a lot less, and I've been one of them.

I wish all you Fedi-folk a safe and peaceful Christmas period.

I find stuff, scavenge, re-use...I'm pretty good at it & I've kitted out my house, garden and allotment more or less for free and made a bit of money selling decent finds online.

Recently, I've found discarded dog crates, so I put them online for £3 each.

The first purchaser was Spidey Cat's person! Poor Spidey died earlier in the year, but I still say hi to him when I walk past his house.

So, a cheap crate for her other cat, the transaction felt serendipitous.

My friend Jess the cat died. She was 16. They found her on a cabinet, must have been quick. Poor girl, I shall miss her. She was so polite and gentle. Goodbye Jess.

The allotment continues to cook its materials over the winter. The compost and leaf crate are both full, as is the comfrey bin.

I also got given a mini greenhouse thingy, but so far the only use for it I've found is to store bought compost that I've been paid in kind with.

It always amazes me how such a large volume of material transforms into a relatively small amount of compost. Its an amazing process though.
