This piece by Marina Hyde on the irony of OpenAI complaining that some of DeepSeek's working were 'stolen' from them raised a smile this morning.... as Hyde suggests, when your business model is the effective theft of content across the internet, no-one really is going to (our should) have much sympathy when your own business is subject to a similar process (via reverse engineering?).

The neat thing about "distillation" is that DeepSeek don't even need to reverse engineer ClosedAI's model.
