This is an interesting time to be reading @cstross 's The Delirium Brief for the first time.
@pluralistic 's Radicalized has been seen as prescient lately, but @cstross really demonstrated the chaos of abruptly shutting down a government body without first wrapping up all the loose ends.

@mister_e @cstross I'm guessing it has a happy-ish ending. So far the rest of the Laundry Files novels do.
It's a great book, so far, so I can recommend it just for the story. And maybe seeing Our Heroes dealing with a government takeover and coming out on top will give you hope for the real world.
