Just got the all clear from my housesitter. Now it's a race against the weather forecast. But rather than take the most direct route back, I picked a route that avoids three midsize mountain passes where the temperatures are below freezing and the pavement is at least wet. Yes, the truck has new tires and they should give it more grip than it had, but I'm still a crappy driver in ice and the last thing I need is to damage my truck by sliding into something. This adds 30 minutes to the drive.

@mlanger Very shortly I'm off to go drive a compact car ~300 miles in the region just to the north east, lol, drive safe, slow is better than off the road! <3

@20000lbs_of_Cheese Take it slow. Those lightweight vehicles might not have a lot of momentum (like my truck/camper combo), but they're just as likely to slide on the ice. Probably easier to control, though.

@mlanger Much easier to control, dig out, and push! I've only went off the road once in the six or seven years I've been driving for work, somehow, but I don't let other folks rush me anymore, they can hit me or pass if I'm already driving over the speed limit or if conditions are bad ha

@20000lbs_of_Cheese OMG, I can't even imagine how much effort it would take to pull my rig out of a snow pile alongside the road.

The good news is that I made it home safe and sound. As I suspected, the worst road would be the one I live on. I just took it slow in four-wheel-drive and got it home. Yippee!

@mlanger

Always good to make it home!

did my 260ish miles, not far from the Canadian border at points, but I thankfully got through before it dropped back below freezing, though it looks like we're back in a warm period just above freezing this coming week, so it's slush city!

@20000lbs_of_Cheese And we're getting colder every night here. My camper is in the driveway and I put the heat on in it for the night. I need to get it into the garage tomorrow before the snow starts.
