Ok, now I'm terrified. I can't log in to view my social security records.

I'm trying to understand why it has become a trend for all the talking heads on YouTube to have a big fat microphone in front of their face. Is it because they're trying to show off their hardware? It is possible to talk into a microphone without the microphone being in the camera.
I can't watch these videos because these people look like idiots. π

While I was away, I watched a video that was basically a review of this book, "The Manual of Linotype Typography." Linotype is/was(?) a method of producing lines of type for publications such as newspapers and magazines before desktop publishing took over the printing industry. I was struck by the beauty of the book and the examples inside it so I tracked down a copy and bought it. It's a first edition copyrighted 1923, in remarkably good shape considering its age.

My Growing Dissatisfaction with SocialΒ Media
I start to think long and hard about my involvement in social media and whether it's worth the time I spend on it. Maybe you should, too.

Rover's second attempt to move into the house yesterday.
Understand that he has to climb up a 10 foot tall 8 x 8 post to get up to my deck. Then he looks through all of the doors and windows until I finally give in, let him in, shoo him down the stairs, and let him into the garage where he lives. He did this three times after I got home yesterday.
Happy #Caturday!

I think that they are almost as glad to be home as I am.

It might seem like a no-brainer to just measure and then back it in, but I also have a whole bunch of other stuff in front of that trailer that has to be moved out of the way and I'm not quite sure where I'm going to move it. I expect this to be a difficult day but I will feel a lot better when I get the truck and camper inside. (2/2)

My big challenge today is making room in my garage to get my camper back in AND get the door closed. When I left in late December, I used my Jeep's front tow hitch to move around the cargo trailer that's in there. The Jeep is trapped by snow piles in its garage. I just hope I left enough room in from of that trailer to get the camper back in in front of it, preferably with the truck. Snow is coming Monday (if not sooner) and I don't want to leave them outside. (1/2)

The wind is howling and has been since around 1AM. (Ask me how I know.) In the past year, I've lived in a house, a truck camper, and a boat. Oddly, even though the house doesn't budge in the wind (unlike the other two), the sound of the wind always wakes me up.
Neighbor's weather station showed gusts to 28 MPH a little while ago. Must be a front blowing through since the temperature drops starting later today. Snow forecasted for the entire week.π

Do you have a landline at your home?
Please feel free to comment with an explanation of your answer. Boosts would be appreciated; I suspect a lot of people might be interested in the answer.

Also in my mail: an area phone book. Apparently, a lot of people still do have land lines. (I don't.)

Just got the all clear from my housesitter. Now it's a race against the weather forecast. But rather than take the most direct route back, I picked a route that avoids three midsize mountain passes where the temperatures are below freezing and the pavement is at least wet. Yes, the truck has new tires and they should give it more grip than it had, but I'm still a crappy driver in ice and the last thing I need is to damage my truck by sliding into something. This adds 30 minutes to the drive.

I'm in Bend, OR, buying new tires for my truck. Good thing I reminded them about the warranty on the tires on there that I bought from them. 60,000 mile warranty and I put 35,000 miles on the truck. I saved about $500 with a warranty credit. Still paid nearly $1,000 for 4 all-terrain tires installed. But $1,000 is better than $1,500, no?

My own jewelers bench is homemade and lacks a lot of the features shown in the previous photo. It works fine for me but if I ever did achieve a higher level of success as a #silversmith and jewelry maker, I would treat myself to a professional jeweler bench like the one shown here. I'm just not ready to spend $1800 π³ plus shipping to buy something I don't need. 3/3

The honest truth is that I've been lusting after one of these tables for a very long time but had no real use for one. This morning, when I was shopping for jewelers benches and realized it would cost about $1200 to buy (and ship) two small ones (see photo), I needed a more cost-effective solution. This is it. $323 including tax and free shipping to arrive tomorrow. And I can always buy a second one when I get more than 2 students. 2/3

Decided to buy one of these for my upcoming jewelry making class. It has wheels so it's easily moved out of the way when not in use. It's 62 inches long, so we can easily seat two students. It has adjustable height and a heavy duty solid wood top. It's way nicer than the folding table I have but not as nice as the jeweler's benches I'd buy if I knew I could do this regularly. It'll also be a great workspace for my bookbinding and paper crafts. 1/3

Good morning, afternoon, and evening! First toot in more than 24 hours. Last night's campground had no cell signal and no Wi-Fi. It was kind of nice to be off the grid.
I drove all day today, covering the 500+ miles from Tecopa to Susanville in about 9 hours, including a few short stops. Tonight I'm camped out in a Casino parking lot. Sure beats Walmart! Added benefit: breakfast at the casino before I hit the road in the morning.
