Social media is weird and confusing. I have enough trouble living my own life, I don't know how you meaningful post about it in a way that isn't at least a little bit of a put on

Toot

@dotproto I mean, it depends what type of social media we're talking about. My fediverse feed is full of people posting photos about birds, weather, & such, with text posts talking about how they're just barely getting by in this overwhelming world. Doesn't feel like a lot of fakery there.

Socials where you're expected to only post fabulous looking selfies in interesting locations, or enthusiastic work updates, that's something else. Ones where everyone's editing their own videos, I don't know.

@AmeliaBR I didn't mean to past aspersions at anyone but myself. In retrospect, though, my diction could have been tighter

Living out loud is not something that comes natural to me. I have to make a conscious effort to share a thought rather then chuckle/sigh to myself and watch it pass. Part of why I try to push myself to post is to get more comfortable taking up space

@dotproto Ah, I see. So it's not the feeling that the content is fake, but rather the "oh, I should post this".

And honestly: living your life in the moment should be the ideal! For me, a lot of posts come from the fact that I live alone & don't have anyone else with whom to share those random thoughts / moments.

But if you're trying to make an effort to post more, maybe a healthy way to do that would be as part of a daily (or even weekly) reflection: what was a neat thing that happened?
