@Crissy huh, been trying to make my profile more accessible. Seems like barely anyone looka at it. Does the "open to work" have to be on your profile picture?

@engravecavedave hi, not necessarily! In fact, there are 2 versions of the Open to Work. Prior to today, I had the version where the green circle doesn't show up (it only discreetly shows it to recruiters apparently).

Honestly, that's why I am using the open to work version that's visible to everyone (so that the reach is better) and it does let everyone (e.g. your employer) know you're looking. Doing this option also asks you to publish an autofilled announcement post that you're looking for work.

So far, my post is boosted and the reach is greater. I do like that I can post so people know the area i'm looking for work (both industry and geography).

A trusted connection DM'd me a work opportunity but as I look at it, I think it's too good to be true (pay rate and recruiter looked iffy).

@Crissy I see, that's fair. Well, I am unemployed and have been for a while. Is it bad to say it bothers me that my connections can see the post and boosts? Idk, the whole social media thing is incredibly anxiety inducing. The person who decided to combine it should be combines with one's professional life deserves a place in hell

@engravecavedave thanks for sharing, I'm sorry to hear that and I too feel the anxiety. TBH LinkedIn has been spammy and going downhill i.e. I get so many sponsored DMs (ads) and fake recruiters reaching out.

There are some good things like remaining in touch with people I've met or worked with and seeing what's in my industry. There are also some good events to know about and are accessible remotely thru Live events (it's audio).

Also: Previously, my being online led a local recruiter to find me and hire me for an organization that was a good fit.

Recently, I'm following a recruiter who says they use it for researching candidates. She has good advice like connect to people directly, apply on company websites, rather than LinkedIn (even though she posts it on LinkedIn).

You would have better luck going to a local employment agency if it's been awhile since you're employed as they can help you better. Not saying apply on LinkedIn, rather don't rely on it solely.

Oh I do those things for sure. Unfortunately LinkedIn is pretty much a must in Denmark. I had an internship mentor thing where he helped me with CVs. Asked whether I could delete my profile and start a new one. Essentially getting rid of all the connections from the country I left and reset the algorithm.

His response was, "Well if they see that you don't have enough connection, they might reject you outright." Feels rather dystopian tbh. Akin to not getting food because not enough FB likes.
