The footbridge across the River Wear to the romantic ruins of Finchale Priory, Co Durham.

Anyone remember the toll charge of 1d (pre-decimalisation) each way? A chap in a toll booth on the priory side collect the toll.

Always recall camping here in the Whitsun school holidays of June 1968, the first time I ever spent a night under canvas.

It was quite an eventful few days, marked by the assassination of one Robert F Kennedy.

At the time, Kennedy was running for the Democratic presidential nomination.
