Okay, serious question: In TYOOL 2025, what are the reasonable tools and platforms available for publishing a blogpost?

And along with that: Where does one draw the line wrt reasonable self-promotion?

Like, if I write a technical blog, I wanna post that where potentially-interested folks can find it, but I don't want to maintain a reddit/hackernews/etc account. But it somehow feels like not-enough to just,,, post it to fedi.

(Nevermind lots of questions about search engine visibility)

@tldrellie ime, search engines will find your blog unless you put in the effort to hide it and HN users will submit your posts even if you'd rather not be perceived by them

posts of mine have ended up on HN and lobste.rs simply because I posted about them on fedi and bsky

@tldrellie a friend keeps getting her blog posts submitted to HN and has tried many ways to get them to stop doing that and not be weird about her, but none have really worked

@flamingspork This is really interesting to me! I'll grant, my last serious go at writing online was pre-pandemic (and pre-transition), but at the time, nothing I wrote got picked up really... anywhere.

While I'm sure I have plenty of room to grow as a technical writer, I know I write better than a lot of stuff that gets broad engagement.
